An investigation by Waterloo Regional police initiated in February has led to a criminal charge being laid against an officer.
Const. Craig Markham, a nine-year member of the force, was suspended from duty on Feb. 8, 2012 after other officers recognized potential misconduct.
Markham was arrested Monday and charged with one count of breach of trust contrary to the criminal code. He remains suspended from duty.
The alleged offence occurred in 2011 and involved the release of confidential information to a member of the public.
In a press release Chief Matt Torigian said "The trust and confidence of our community and the support of our dedicated members who live the values of our Service remain foremost in our minds at this difficult time. We are committed to using all available resources to bring this matter to a timely resolution. Our service will continue to provide the highest level of service to our citizens."
The investigation is continuing.
