Police in Harriston ended up having their hands full after spotting a stolen truck.

Wellington County OPP officers spotted a stolen pickup truck west of Harriston, on Regional Road 87 on Monday around 9:30 a.m.

When police attempted to stop the truck, which was reported stolen on October 12, the driver ignored them and sped away. Because of the rate of speed the truck was travelling, the officers stopped following due to the possible danger to the public.

About 10 minutes later, the truck was found by police in the Harriston Arena parking lot. An unmarked police vehicle attempted to block the truck which struck both the building and the police vehicle causing damage to both.

The truck was abandoned on nearby Young Street and the driver was apprehended by OPP officers.

Total damage to the police vehicle and the arena wall was estimated at $30,000.

Michael Clarkson of Minto Township faces numerous charges and will be in Guelph court Tuesday.
