After discovering a $750,000 deficit and ordering a nine per cent property tax increase, officials in North Dumfries are now searching for a new finance director.

Mayor Sue Foxton confirmed to CTV News that Liam Gott, who filled that role and that of township treasurer, had been dismissed.

“I can officially say that Liam Gott no longer works for the township,” she said Wednesday.

Foxton would not say whether the ouster was directly related to the township’s recent financial issues.

Budget documents showed that a number of departmental budgets were overspent, and overtime costs were also higher than expected.

The township is now looking to hire a new finance director, as well as a new CAO, in the coming weeks.

Gott could not be reached for comment before this story was published.
