Three days after a Cambridge man was hit and killed while walking across a street, police say they have yet to find one of the two vehicles that hit him.

Joseph Lalonde, who was 49 years old and went by the name Paul, was identified Tuesday as the man killed in Saturday evening’s crash.

Lalonde was crossing Cedar Street at the Westgate Plaza when he was hit by a white pickup truck, then hit by a second vehicle that was turning left into the plaza.

Residents who live in the area say Cedar Street is a busy road for pedestrians to cross.

“I always said to myself it's going to happen one of these days with the way that people go up and down this hill,” said Anthony Mazzuca, who manages a property near Lalonde’s apartment.

Those who knew Lalonde say he was a good man.

“A real nice man. A real gentlemen. Never gave the building, or other residents any problem,” said Michael Blundon, the superintendent where Lalonde lived.

Waterloo Regional Police have said that the white pickup truck left the area in the moments following the crash, rather than waiting for police.

They say the truck in question received damage to its headlight assembly, grill and side mirror on the driver’s side.

It was initially believed to be a Ford F-250, but police have since expanded their search to include F-250, F-350 and F-550 super duty pickup trucks from the model years 1999 to 2001, as well as Ford Excursions from model years 2000 to 2002.

In any case, police say, the truck had a white cap on its back.

Mazzuca hopes police find whoever was involved in the crash.

“He was a super nice guy. To find who did this would make a difference for family and friends” he said.

Police continue to investigate.
