Guelph Eramosa Township (GET)  has given a large donation to a group fighting to stop a quarry development outside of Rockwood.

The township approved a sum of $70,000 for the Concerned Residents Coalition (CRC).  The money will go to help pay the high costs of bringing expert witnesses to an OMB Hearing regarding the Hidden Quarry in September.

The money is not coming from tax-based funds, instead the township is using the Rockwood Hydro Fund to finance the donation.

Guelph Eramosa Council also announced that they will not be bringing witnesses to the hearing, but support the opposition to the quarry proposal by James Dick Construction.

GET Mayor Christopher White said in a press release from the CRC that: “The potential impacts related to blasting and to water quality and quantity provide an unacceptable level of riskto our community. There is no demonstrated overall benefit to our Township.”

Halton Region and Halton Hills Council also object to the application.

The quarry is located between Rockwood and Acton off of Highway 7 on the 6th Line.

CRC has been trying to stop the quarry application for several years and will be bringing five expert witnesses to the OMB hearing, which is scheduled for September 27, 2016.
