One person was killed and another injured Sunday evening when they were hit by a car while walking along the shoulder of a road west of Hagersville.

Haldimand County OPP say the crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Indian Line, between New Credit Road and Concession 14.

According to police, an eastbound Pontiac left the paved roadway, drove back onto the road, crossed to the other side and struck the two pedestrians, who were part of a group of four.

One female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was identified Monday as Amanda Jacobs, a 31-year-old resident of Pic Mobert First Nation in northern Ontario.

A male pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries described as not being life-threatening, while the other two pedestrians and the driver of the Pontiac were not hurt.

Indian Line remained closed until approximately 1 a.m.
