Cold weather has slowed the melting of snow along the Grand River’s banks – and while ice jams are still a possibility, officials say there’s less concern than there was earlier in the week.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the main areas of concern were Brantford and points downstream.

According to the Grand River Conservation Authority, Gilkinson Street in Brantford is at risk of flooding if ice jams in the area.

Further south, ice cover is beginning to melt around Cayuga, creating the potential for it to jam and flood localized areas.

Upstream of Caledonia and Dunnville, river-watchers don’t expect the Grand’s ice cover to break up over the next couple days.
