It's been nearly a month since Lydia Herrle stepped off a school bus in front of her family's business and was hit by a truck. She remains in a coma at a Toronto hospital.

The man who was driving the truck that struck the 13-year old has now been charged.

Jason Arndt, of Kitchener, is charged with "failure to stop for school bus", "dangerous operation of of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm", "careless driving" and "criminal negligence causing bodily harm".

Arndt is an employee at Plein Disposal Inc. The company told CTV News today he hasn't been allowed back on the road since the crash. Plein Disposal Inc.'s owner, Adolph Plein wasn't at the office and didn't respond to CTV Kitchener's request for an interview.

Lydia's parents have issued a statement:

Our lives have been forever changed since May 17, and we do not know to what extent Lydia will recover from the injuries she has sustained. We continue to entrust her to the sovereign lord who created her and gave her to us. We do not bear any ill will towards the person(s) charged. We are trusting that God, in his timing, will bring about healing and restoration for all whose lives have been adversely affected by this incident.

At the hospital, the family says they take comfort in Lydia's small improvements, like opening her eyes or smiling.

Arndt is scheduled to appear in court on July 31st.
