One month after it sold five buildings to the University of Waterloo, BlackBerry says more of its local real estate is up for grabs.

The company said Tuesday that it plans to sell its buildings near Waterloo’s university district, its Northfield Drive campus and its Cambridge warehouses, as well as properties in Mississauga and Ottawa.

A commercial real estate brochure does not place a value on the buildings, but does say they comprise more than three million square feet of office space in total.

In a press release, the company said it plans to lease back buildings it is currently occupying once they are sold.

“BlackBerry remains committed to being headquartered in Waterloo and having a strong presence in Canada along with other global hubs,” CEO John Chen said in a the release.

“This initiative will further enhance BlackBerry’s financial flexibility, and will provide additional resources to support our operations as our business continues to evolve.”

Eighty-five acres of vacant land are also up for grabs.

In December, BlackBerry sold five buildings adjacent to the University of Waterloo campus to the school for $41 million.

At the time, the company said it would occupy two of the buildings until as late as 2019, while the other three would immediately be turned over to the school.

Company officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment asking whether it owns other properties in Waterloo Region.
