Waterloo Regional Police have charged a 29-year-old man with first degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a Kitchener man on Friday night.
Brendon Makins, 33, was shot outside a home on Greendale Crescent.
Neighbours saw a red Dodge Charger stop in front of the home just after 9:30 p.m.
Georgette Baker said that’s when she heard the shots.
“We heard pow-pow-pow. We assumed it was firecrackers that [the driver] threw.”
The driver then sped off.
“The man was lying face down on the ground and couldn’t breathe,” said Baker. “My husband rolled him over and that’s when they saw the hole in his chest.”
Three teens also tried to help Makins. Neighbours say two of them were his sons.
Police arrested the alleged shooter in Durham Region on Saturday, but did not release his name or his relationship to Makins.
Before the arrest police said they did not believe the shooting was a random attack.
There will be an increased police presence in the Chicopee and Huron Road area over the next few days as police continue their investigation.
