Waterloo Regional Police have charged a South Bruce man with Careless Driving, after the transport truck he was operating struck power lines on Thursday.

On Courtland Avenue East in the city of Kitchener, the truck was pulling a dump trailer and while travelling southbound, the trailer began to rise causing it to strike power lines, according to police.

Police say that the damage to the lines caused two poles to snap as well as damaging a third.

The driver was unhurt but was trapped in the truck until hydro crews were able to shut down all of the power to the lines.

About 2,000 customers were without power in the area.

Hydro crews say about a dozen businesses will remain without power today.

Courtland Avenue East is closed for most of Friday due to the damages.
