Officers at a RIDE check set up in rural Perth County over the weekend didn’t find any impaired drivers – but they did charge all eight people in a taxi that came through the check Saturday night.

The checkpoint had been set up on Line 32 at Road 150, east of Mitchell.

Around 9:30 p.m., Perth County OPP say, a taxi with seven adult passengers made its way to where police were stationed.

All seven passengers were allegedly drinking alcohol, and all of them were ticketed for consuming liquor at an unlicensed public place.

The West Perth resident driving the taxi was charged for driving a vehicle with liquor readily available, and for using licence plates not registered to that vehicle.

Police say the taxi was towed away, with its driver and passengers having to find alternate ways of getting home.
