A 28-year-old Kitchener man allegedly seen running behind houses in a Kitchener neighbourhood was taken into custody following a large-scale police effort.
The chain of events began a little after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a man was spotted going behind houses on Admiral Road, near Highland Road and Belmont Avenue.
A number of police officers responded, including the Waterloo Regional Police Emergency Response Unit and a canine unit.
According to police, the man then ran southwest to Gatewood Road, where he was seen with a suspicious package.
Judy McGraw says her property was one of the ones the man crossed through.
“From what I heard, I believe he said that he was carrying a bomb,” McGraw told CTV News.
Police caught up with the man on Gatewood, and placed him under arrest.
They say the package was found not to be suspicious.
As of Wednesday evening, no charges had been laid.
