The family of a New Hamburg boy is fighting for his life.

Three-year-old Easton Van De Hogen has a severe case of Type 1 diabetes and has been in three life threatening situations.

Due to his low blood levels, Easton has had multiple seizures and has lost consciousness more than once.

Every 30 minutes his finger is pricked for blood testing. The three-year-old also takes insulin up to six times a day. His family watches every movement he makes, in fear.

“Every hour of everyday you’re constantly in fear thinking, is he going to wake up in the morning?” says Easton’s grandmother, Charlotte Rauch.

There is currently no solution for Easton’s disease but there is a monitor that can help alleviate some of the family’s stress.

The monitor can test his blood every three minutes without having to be pricked.

Due to the high costs of the monitor, Easton’s family will be holding a fundraiser at the St. Agatha Community Centre on June 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
