Perth County OPP chased a stolen ATV for more than 25 kilometres Tuesday morning.

According to police, an officer patrolling Road 130 between Rostock and Brunner, south of Milverton, noticed a suspicious man on a rural property shortly after 6 a.m.

As the officer drove onto the property, the man allegedly hopped onto a six-wheeled ATV and speed away, heading southbound through an assortment of fields.

After chasing the ATV to a farm southeast of Sebringville, police lost track of it due to fog cover.

By the time officers found the ATV, its driver had abandoned the vehicle and set out on foot.

Around 8 a.m., OPP issued a bulletin warning the public not to pick up any hitchhikers in the Sebringville area and to immediately call police if a suspicious man in dark clothing was seen.

A canine unit was brought in to help track down the man, but was unable to do so.

Investigators later determined that the ATV had been stolen from a residence in the Blyth area sometime overnight.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
