A break-in at a home in Waterford, south of Brantford, left the homeowner in hospital with serious injuries.

Norfolk County OPP say the owner of the Main Street home awoke shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday to the sound of four intruders.

The four men allegedly brandished weapons and stole a number of items from the home, which police say had been unlocked while the homeowner slept.

According to police, the homeowner then ran after the men, as they made their way to a car parked behind a nearby business – dropping some of the items as they went.

An altercation ensued, during which police say the homeowner was assaulted by one of the men in the car and then hit by the vehicle itself as it left the area.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, which police say are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police describe one of the intruders as light-skinned but “non-white”, with chin-length, curly black hair. They say he was wearing a flat-brimmed baseball hat, a white sweater and a white bandana that covered his face.

A second intruder is described as being similarly light-skinned and “not-white”, wearing a black shirt, black pants and a black bandana that covered his face.

No descriptions were provided for the other two men, or the driver of their vehicle – a bright blue Honda Civic with round tail lights, which was last seen northbound on Main Street.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
