On Sunday, Stratford and Goderich will play host to a royal couple.

Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband, Peter van Vollenhoven, will be in the area.

Their visit will include an 11:45 a.m. stop at the corner of William and Huron streets in Stratford, where the Wounded Bird statue will be rededicated to Stratford.

The statue was gifted to the city in 1956 by members of the local Dutch community.

People wanting to attend the ceremony are asked to arrive by 11:30 a.m.

The Goderich leg of the trip will include a veterans’ parade and the unveiling of a memorial plaque for Canadian soldiers who died in the Netherlands during the Second World War.

Princess Margriet was born in Canada during the Second World War. Her parents were living in Canada at the time due to the German occupation of the Netherlands.

Her and her husband will be in Canada from Saturday until next Tuesday, with additional stops planned in Brampton, Hamilton, Burlington and Toronto.
