An inquest has been called into the death of a 23-year-old man working on the construction of an apartment tower in Waterloo’s university district.

London resident Nick Lalonde died in October 2013, while working at 185 King Street North.

According the Ministry of Labour, he was propelled through a wall by a 3,500-pound skid of concrete blocks while on the 12th floor of the building.

He landed on a scaffold four storeys down, later dying of injuries from the fall.

Two companies involved in the project have been fined a combined $210,000 for not following proper safety procedures.

No dates have been announced for the inquest, which will be presided over by Dr. John Ewen.
