A Brantford man is facing charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in an area just south of downtown Brantford.

According to police, a woman was approached by a stranger while walking on trails near the Brantford Civic Centre around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

The man allegedly grabbed the woman’s shorts and tried to pull them down, ignoring her demands for him to stop.

Police say another person on the trail then pulled the man away from the woman and told him to leave her alone.

The woman resumed her walk, only to again be approached by the man.

Again, police say, bystanders saw what was happening and jumped in to help the woman.

Police were called, and a 36-year-old man was placed under arrest on charges of sexual assault and criminal harassment.
