A Brantford man allegedly tried to grab a police officer’s Taser and pepper spray while resisting arrest.

Police say the altercation was the result of a Saturday afternoon call about a domestic disturbance.

The initial incident allegedly involved a 40-year-old man and his 73-year-old mother becoming involved in a verbal argument, including the man threatening to kick his mother’s teeth in.

According to police, the man also threatened his brother over the telephone, after which the brother contacted police.

When the man was told he was being placed under arrest, police say, he became “extremely irate and aggressive” and tried to disarm one of the responding officers.

Specifically, the man allegedly grabbed the officer’s duty belt, unlocked the holster for his pepper spray, partially undid his protective vest, and also reached for the officer’s Taser.

Three police officers were able to bring the man under control and into custody.
