Ontario Provincial Police have charged a retired minister with sexual offences in connection with incidents alleged to have happened in the 1980s.

Retired Reverend George Ferris, 64, of Cambridge, Ont. has been charged with sexual assault, gross indecency and sexual exploitation.

The charges stem from allegations about incidents that occurred between 1983 and 1989.

Brant County OPP says the charges are related to one complainant linked to that six year period.

Ferris retired from St. James Anglican Church in Cambridge, Ont. in January 2011. He also served at the St. James Anglican Church in Paris, Ont. for 10 years, starting in 1981.

He has served at numerous other parishes over the past 40 years, as well as being the director of residences at Renison University College on the University of Waterloo campus.

He was arrested in Cambridge on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in a Brantford court on Jan. 10, 2012.

A publication ban is in place on all evidence connected with the case.
