Another member of Woolwich’s township council has been flagged for issues around campaign expenses.
In an auditor’s report made public by township officials Tuesday morning, Coun. Scott Hahn was found in “apparent contravention” of the Municipal Elections Act.
Hahn, who was elected for the first time that October, admitted that his original financial statements did not contain any reference to money spent for election signs or campaign brochures – both of which he had ordered.
Auditors found that Hahn’s financial statements breached four separate sections of the provincial legislation governing elections and election finances.
Township officials say a judge will decide in August whether Hahn's violations were severe enough to warrant taking the matter to court.
Two other members of Woolwich’s council have found themselves in court after breaches of the campaign financing rules came to light.
In both cases, Mayor Sandy Shantz and Coun. Mark Bauman were told that losing their position – the prescribed penalty for any violation – was too harsh of a sentence to be given.
