Waterloo Region isn’t leaving the federal cabinet table.

Waterloo MP Bardish Chagger was sworn in Wednesday as Canada’s newest minister for small business and tourism.

Chagger handily dispatched Conservative incumbent Peter Braid in last month’s election, winning the seat by more than 10,000 votes.

In the previous cabinet, the small business and tourism portfolios were handled by Maxime Bernier as a minister of state.

Former Cambridge MP Gary Goodyear was Waterloo Region’s last cabinet representative.

He served as minister of state for science and technology from 2008 until 2009, when he was named minister of state responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency in Southern Ontario.
