One man is dead following a collision between a van and a motorcycle on Erb Street West in Waterloo.

Waterloo Regional Police report that the crash occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday, near Dietz Avenue.

Details on the identity of the motorcyclist killed were not immediately available.

Trevor Kramer, a witness to the crash, told CTV News that the motorcycle had overtaken his truck and sped off moments before.

When the crash occurred, a number of people rushed to help – including rescue diver Stephen DeLaat.

“I was ready to do CPR, but fortunately the other woman on scene was a nurse, so she got in right away,” he said.

The driver of the minivan was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police said that Erb would likely remain closed in the area until sometime Thursday night.
