A one-year-old girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the SUV she was a passenger in rolled over multiple times and hit a hydro pole.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of Haldimand Road 9 and Fifth Line, south of Caledonia and west of York, shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They found that an SUV had been travelling southbound on Haldimand Road 9, crossed over the road, gone into a ditch, rolled several times and finally struck the pole.

Its driver, a 19-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital.

Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, Haldimand County OPP said.

The child was taken to McMaster Children’s Hospital for specialized treatment.
