While most construction on rapid transit infrastructure this summer will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., some parts of the project will see work extend much later into the night – at least in Waterloo.
The city has approved a noise exemption request from GrandLinq, allowing them to carry on construction outside those hours.
The contractor says it will need to work until 9 p.m. on some days in order to remain on schedule.
Overnight work will also be necessary at some points due to the need to shut down the CN rail line for certain portions of the project – something for which GrandLinq has an 88-hour timeframe.
For any overnight work to be done, GrandLinq must give the city two days’ notice.
If the construction is occurring on more than two consecutive nights, two weeks’ notice is required.
The exemption, which was approved by councillors Monday night, covers work in an area stretching north from Erb and Caroline streets, through Seagram Drive and along the proposed route to Northfield Drive.
