The province's Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman was hurt during a police investigation in Brantford.
Brantford police say it happened around 2 p.m. when officers approached a suspect vehicle in a parking lot at 325 West Street.
The woman was in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was hurt during what police are calling an 'interaction' between officers and the man driving the vehicle.
Police say an officer fired a gun at the vehicle as it was headed toward the officer, with the driver reportedly trying to get away.
There has been no confirmation of how many shots were fired, but more than one shell casing could be seen on the ground in the parking lot. Police say no one was hurt as a result of the gunfire.
The man behind the wheel was located a short time later in a parking lot at Charing Cross and West Streets. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police then carried out a search warrant at the pair's home in the same area. The 25-year-old Brantford man and 22-year-old woman are facing a string of criminal charges.
Both were being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
