Serious injuries after crash at major Kitchener intersection

One person was seriously hurt Tuesday morning in a crash at a major Kitchener intersection.

Waterloo regional police said a black Ford pickup truck and red Chevrolet car collided around 8:40 a.m. at King Street East and Deer Ridge Drive.

The 26-year-old man who was driving the car was taken to a hospital outside the region. His injuries are said to be serious.

The other driver, a 32-year-old Kitchener man, was not hurt.

Both the car and pickup truck had significant damage.

The southbound lanes of King Street East were partially closed, with just one lane open, while Deer Ridge Drive was also closed between King Street and Grand Hill Drive. Both have since reopened to traffic.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and said charges are anticipated.
