The Ministry of Labour and Elgin County OPP are investigating the circumstances into the death of a construction worker in St. Thomas Wednesday morning.

Around 11:30 am, 55-year-old Brian Daniel of St. Thomas was directing traffic at the Burwell Road overpass on Highway 3 bypass, when he was struck by a passing pickup truck.

A large boom lift with a bucket for lifting workers was being used to assist in the work and was obstructing the westbound lane.

The truck was travelling in the westbound lane when it collided with the worker.  Brian Daniel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Benjamin Dickout of Malahide township, has been charged with Dangerous driving causing death.  He will remain in custody pending a show cause bail hearing Thursday.
