Health Minister Deb Matthews was at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Thursday, likely as part of a push for support ahead of the provincial budget vote.
The Liberals are pushing to secure two votes from opposition members to help pass the budget, and it appears Cambridge PC MPP Rob Leone is in their sights.
In her visit, Matthews told the crowd a vote against the budget is a vote against Cambridge Memorial, which is in the middle of implementing expansion plans.
"I'm here to say that this project is going ahead if I have anything to do with it…this project is going ahead. But I can't do that without the budget passing on Tuesday."
The hospital has been waiting for a $200-million expansion for years.
Last week the province promised an additional $4.3 million on top of the $10 million promised five years ago for the planning process.
But now the Liberals say the project's future is in question if the budget isn't approved and they want constituents to pressure Leone for his vote.
But Leone says he still plans to vote against the budget because it is weak, and hospital funding should be based on need and not politics.
