Fire officials say old wiring is likely the cause of a fire that destroyed a house near Bloomingdale earlier this week.

A passerby was first to notice flames and smoke coming from a house on Durant Road near Bloomingdale early Monday afternoon.

Four stations and more than 50 firefighters were called in to fight the fire, which was made more difficult by a steel roof preventing them from battling the flames from above.

Three cats are believed to have died in the fire, and damage is estimated at $300,000.

The occupants of the 19th-century log home were not home at the time.
