Minor flooding possible with snow melt, rain on way: GRCA
The Waterloo Region and the city of Guelph will be wrapping up 2024 with unusually warm weather over the weekend.
Those living within the regions can expect to see wet weather over the next couple of days, according to the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA).
The GRCA said temperatures are expected to reach up to 10 degrees celsius around the Grand River stretch. The warmer weather will cause some snow melt and an additional 25 to 35 millimetres of rain by the time the weather disruption moves out of the area on Saturday.
Meantime, The Weather Network is reporting that an active storm path is travelling across the Great Lakes in Southern Ontario, which will bring two rounds of active weather to the province.
The network said that round one will see a Texas low, a type of low pressure storm with a lot of moisture, which will bring that moisture through southern Ontario.
They said that round two is expected on Sunday, with more moisture coming to the regions. 30 to 40 mm of rain is expected to fall across the Waterloo and Guelph regions.
Temperatures are expected to stay at a consistent high of 10 degrees celsius on Sunday, according to Environment Canada.
The GRCA said that snow will be present along the Grand River watershed. With rain on the way, increasing snow melt, they predict that waterway levels and flows could rise. No significant flooding is expected but the higher flows will increase the risk of some flooding in lower terrain areas.
