Barbara Bewsher, the 74-year-old who had been missing for a week, has been found dead.

Her son, Derrick Bewsher, tells CTV News her body was discovered in an abandoned farmhouse in the Waterloo Region area.

He says he’s saddened by the loss of his mother, but is also very thankful to friends and family who helped in the search.

Barbara was last seen a week ago on Thursday morning, when she dropped in to visit with friends at her old job.

Earlier this week, Derrick told CTV News he know something was wrong because his mother had planned a weekend trip to Orillia, but left her medication, suitcase and cash at her apartment.

He says police have told him his mother drove to an abandoned farmhouse and her body was found inside. They also say she likely died of natural causes.

Barbara had recently been showing signs of dementia, and lost a lot of weight in the last year after suffering a heart attack.

The family says they are planning a memorial service at the Lounsbury Funeral Home in the Hespeler area of Cambridge.

Police are not providing any details until the results of a post mortem examination are released.
