Man arrested after three Guelph businesses broken into
A Guelph man is facing several charges after three businesses in the city’s north end were broken into.
Guelph Police were called to two neighbouring businesses on Woodlawn Road West near Woolwich Street just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
They said both businesses had been entered after their windows were smashed. A small amount of cash was taken from the businesses.
A short time later, officers were called to Woodlawn Road East and Victoria Road North after they were told a man reached through a drive-through window and took cash from a register. The suspect was caught on video surveillance footage.
While police were investigating the drive-through theft, they discovered broken windows at another nearby business. Investigators said video shows a suspect pulling on the front door of the business before smashing the glass of the door and then breaking a window, causing approximately $10,000 in damage.
Officers found the man in the Woolwich Street and Suffolk Street East area around 8:30 a.m. and arrested him. During the arrest, they said they found suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and cash.
A 37-year-old Guelph man has been charged with three counts of break and enter, theft under $5,000, two counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of breaching a probation order.
