Homicide suspect wanted on nation-wide warrant arrested in Cambridge
A man has been arrested in Cambridge as part of a nation-wide homicide investigation.
Police services across the country, including Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS), arrested five suspects on Wednesday in connection to three deaths in 2023 and 2024.
In a news release, Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said the first death happened in June 2023 in Charlemagne, Que. A 32-year-old man was shot and killed while getting into his Audi. Police said they believe the victim may have been mistaken for someone else.
SPVM said that in August of 2023, a 28-year-old man was shot and killed while he was leaving a bar in downtown Montreal.
According to police, the third homicide happened in May of 2024, when a 27-year-old man was shot and killed in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.
The SPVM arrested two suspects a month later and are still searching for Dylan Denis, a 27-year-old man, in connection with the homicide. He is on the list of Canada’s 25 most-wanted fugitives.
The five suspects, aged 26 to 35, were arrested on Wednesday in Cambridge, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Que. and Kamloops, BC.
“These new arrests join a dozen others made over the summer as part of this joint investigation by the SPVM and the [Sûreté du Québec],” the SPVM said in its release. “The majority of those apprehended were linked to criminal street gangs in Montreal and Laval.”
WRPS, the Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP and police in Laval and Edmonton helped with the investigation and arrests.
Anyone with information about the homicides or other related events are asked to call 911 or a local police station.
