Members of the local Liberian community held an awareness walk to draw attention to the rising death toll of Ebola victims. About 100 people marched from Victoria Park to Kitchener City Hall, carrying signs and chanting that “Ebola must go!”

They are collecting supplies such as rubber gloves, aprons, facemasks, hand sanitizer, and bleach to send to West Africa.

“Our people are really in dire need of these things that we are asking for,” said Eddie Kowai from the Liberian Canadian Association, one of the organizers of the march.

They are also looking for sponsors to help cover the costs of sending the supplies overseas.

Kowai said beyond the supplies, there is another reason for the march.

“We wanted to thank the Canadian government for what they’ve done, and to ask them to do more because people are still dying.”

“We would like to see more co-ordination of resources so that those who are affected can benefit more,” said Prince Wright of the Liberian Association of London.

“Prevention education is paramount,” Wright continued.
