Kitchener residents won’t be left out in the cold by an offer of rebates for upgraded furnaces, water heaters and insulation.

Glen Murray, Ontario’s minister of the environment and climate change, announced the rebate program last month.

At the time, he said it would be open to all residential customers of Union Gas and Enbridge.

That left Kitchener residents curious if they would be eligible, as they live in the only city in southwestern Ontario to handle its own natural gas distribution services.

City officials say they have since confirmed that Kitchener Utilities customers will also be eligible for the program.

Details about exactly how the program will work and when it will begin are still being worked out.

Murray has said that the rebate program aims to create jobs, lower natural gas bills and reduce the province’s level of greenhouse gas emissions.
