If you’re hoping for a crash-free drive, Kitchener may be one of your best bets.
That’s one of the takeaways from a new study by the Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, which surveyed 50 Canadian communities to see which experience the most insurance claims with Allstate for auto collisions.
In Kitchener, the company found that 4.57 per cent of Allstate-insured vehicles in the city submitted claims between 2012 and 2014 – the seventh-fewest among the communities surveyed, and fourth-fewest in Ontario, behind Sarnia, Peterborough and St. Catharines.
Further down the list were Guelph (5.13 per cent, 23rd lowest), Cambridge (5.31 per cent, 27th lowest) and Brantford (5.93 per cent, 38th lowest).
Allstate last conducted a similar study in 2012, with Brantford ranking as the 16th-safest of the 50 communities for drivers, Kitchener 18th, Cambridge 19th and Guelph 22nd.
Since then, the study found, Kitchener has seen a six per cent decrease in the frequency of collisions leading to insurance claims – while the other three cities have seen increases.
In Brantford’s case, its 23 per cent increase in claim frequency rate was the highest in Ontario.
Waterloo was not included in the study.
Other findings in the study included that Christmas Day is the least active for collision claims over the past 20 years, followed by New Year’s Day and Canada Day.
The most active days for claims, on the other hand, are the three days leading up to Christmas Eve.
