Early on the morning of February 12, 1990, firefighters were called to a tire recycling plant in Hagersville.
The fire wouldn't be extinguished for 17 days.
By then, 14 million tires had burned -- making it not only one of the biggest fires in Ontario's history, but also one of the province's biggest environmental disasters.
Twenty-five years later, memories of that time remain fresh in the minds of those who witnessed it firsthand.
In a special series airing this week on CTV News, David Imrie takes a look at the legacy of the fire and what has been put in place to stop a repeat occurrence.
