Across the region incumbent candidates, almost all Conservative, have swept their ridings, including the tightly contested races in Kitchener Centre and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Conservative incumbent Stephen Woodworth has kept his seat, defeating Liberal Karen Redman in her attempt to regain the riding of Kitchener Centre.

In Kitchener-Waterloo, incumbent Conservative Peter Braid has held his seat against Liberal candidate Andrew Telegdi.

The ridings were among the closest races in Canada in 2008. Both Telegdi and Redman were incumbents going into the 2008 election, and were hoping to reclaim the seats.

Telegdi says vote-splitting was a big challenge and he does not plan to run again.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Conservative candidates in Brant, Cambridge, Kitchener-Conestoga, Oxford, Wellington-Halton Hills and Perth-Wellington have all held on to their seats.

The ridings were all won by decisive margins in the previous election, and were called early Monday night.

Meanwhile, Liberal incumbent Frank Valeriote has held on to the Guelph riding, beating out his Conservative opponent.

In the rest of southwestern Ontario, Conservative and NDP incumbents held their seats, with only the race for London North Centre bringing any change.
