Some residents who live at an apartment complex on Connaught St in Kitchener are still on edge.

Waterloo Regional Police say they found stolen mail, guns and a homemade pipe bomb inside an apartment.

Some people had to leave their homes on Friday night as the Special Response Unit and officers that specialize in explosive removal descended on the area.

Police say they originally went there because they believed guns were inside.

A man and a woman were arrested and items were seized, many believed to have been stolen.

“Including an assault rifle, low calibre handgun, numerous theft of Canada Post mail which we believe is not the property of the people we arrested,” says Police Chief Bryan Larkin.

A homemade pipe bomb was also discovered by investigators which has since been removed and neutralized.

Police say there is a significant investigation underway involving financial crime and identity theft.
