Brantford's Hockeyfest Music Fesitval is officially just a week away but the event is now in limbo.

Hockeyfest is scheduled to run at Brant park from June 1st to 3rd. But on Saturday, Brantford police said it could no longer support the event because of security issues.

The Grand River Conservation Authority says because of the police's position, they've been forced to withdraw Brant Park as the venue.

Dave Schultz, a Communications Manager with GRCA says "It's part of our agreement with the promoter that he have these police officers on-site and if he can't come up with it – then we can't allow it to go forward here."

A news release posted on the GRCA's website says "The contract between the GRCA and Hockeyfest Inc. requires the promoter to be responsible for the retention and associated costs for paid-duty police officials to assist with management and control of the event and to ensure that these paid-duty police officials are present on site."

Big name bands including Weezer, Creed and Hedley are scheduled to play at the three day concert.

Richard Robillard bought tickets and is disappointed after hearing the show may be cancelled. "These are great bands that I've wanted to see finally in person. And now they're coming to our city and then … now they're not coming to our city."

The promoter was not available for a comment. On the festival's Twitter page, one recent entry reads "Hockeyfest is not cancelled. Details to come."

For now, ticket holders can only wait for more updates.
