Guelph police recovered two stolen trucks and have two people in custody after three trucks sped through the downtown area.

Around 1:15 a.m., an officer engaged in a pursuit when he spotted three pickup trucks travelling at a high rate of speed on Wellington Street near Guelph’s downtown.  One of the drivers pulled over, while the other two sped away.  The driver of the stopped pickup truck was found to be driving while disqualified.  It was later discovered that the truck he was driving had been stolen.

One of the other trucks, which was pulling a trailer, was found abandoned on Holiday Street around 3:40 a.m.  That truck and trailer had been stolen from a lawn care business on Dawson Road in the north end of Guelph.

The third truck was spotted by a patrol officer later on and a pursuit was engaged.  The officer stopped following the truck when it became a safety concern to continue due to speed and dangerous driving of the pickup truck.  The truck, which was also pulling a trailer, was last seen leaving the city on Wellington Street heading towards Cambridge.  This truck and trailer were also stolen from the lawn care business on Dawson Road.

At 4:40 a.m., police received a call from a resident on Preston Street, not far from where the truck and trailer were abandoned on Holiday Street. The caller reported that someone had broken into the home and was hiding in the attic.  Police attended the scene and took a man into custody, believed to be involved in the theft of the trucks.

The two men in custody are facing a number of charges.
