After realizing that many collisions reported to the Collision Reporting Centre could be resulting in charges, Guelph Police have decided to start issuing those charges.

Concerns from the public about cases where drivers were never charged for their role in collisions, even if police knew who was fault, led police to look into the issue in October.

They found that 45 per cent of collisions reported at the centre that month could have resulted in charges.

The change took effect Tuesday.

Collision reporting centres typically deal with crashes in which nobody is hurt and there is no serious damage.
