A Guelph woman has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened late Wednesday night northwest of the city.

Police have charged 55-year-old Anna Wilson with failing to remain at the scene of an accident hours after a cyclist’s body was discovered near the road.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Gordon Krofchick of Ariss.

Emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Wellington Road 7 and Wellington Road 51 in Guelph-Eramosa Township around 7:30 a.m. Thursday after a passerby called 911.

“(They) observed a male in the ditch, along with a bicycle near the male with extensive damage,” Wellington County OPP Const. Bob Bartolato tells CTV News.

Also found in the ditch were several parts of the vehicle that had detached during the crash.

Krofchick was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say the crash happened Wednesday night between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Wellington Road 7 remained closed between Wellington Road 51 and Highway 6 in the area until approximately 2:30 p.m.

Police continue to investigate, and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
