A Guelph man is facing charges after a taxi driver was seriously hurt Saturday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., emergency services were called to Paisley Road and Imperial Road South.

It was reported that a taxi driver dropped a man off at a plaza in the area and waited while the man went into a bank to get money for the fare.

According to police, when the man left the bank and began to walk away, the taxi driver drove after him to remind him to pay.

"The male responded by punching the cabbie through the open window, causing a significant injury to the side of his head," police said in a media release.

Police found the man a short distance away and arrested him after he allegedly gestured to punch an officer.

A 27-year-old man is charged with robbery, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting police.
