Gabriel Landeskog is about to embark on his NHL career. The former Kitchener Rangers' captain was picked second overall by Colorado at June's NHL draft and it is no secret that the Avs expect him to be a big part of their rebuilding plan.

The 18-year-old Swede was pegged as the most "NHL-ready" prospect in this year's draft and Landeskog hopes to make the jump to the NHL right away.  With more than thirty forwards vying for a spot on Colorado's roster, it is unsure exactly where Landeskog will fit into the Avalanche line-up.

Late last month, Landeskog signed a three-year deal with Colorado. He leaves for Denver next week, to get ready to participate in the Avalanche training camp.

Landeskog played two seasons in Kitchener. Last year, he led the Rangers with 36 goals despite missing some of the season with an ankle injury.
