Four units of an apartment building have been destroyed in a fire on Sunday.

Wellington County OPP say Wellington North Fire Services and the Town of Minto Fire Department responded to a structure fire at an apartment building on Queen Street in Mount Forest at 11 a.m.

Police say the structure was a single level, 10 unit apartment complex.

A firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

“They were pulling down a ceiling and one of apartments, the ceiling collapsed on top of the firefighter,” said David Guilbault, Wellington North Fire Chief.

“The fire was in the attic space and was going across the roof and in the attic space so we had to get up into that crawl space,” said Guilbault.

No residents were hurt.

The fire has been extinguished after Queen Street between Main Street and Parkside Street was temporarily closed.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.

The Ontario Fire Marshal will be investigating.
