The Six Nations Fire Department is searching for clues as there have been eight suspicious fires on the reserve in the last four months.

The Fire Chief says the similarities between eight fires and the frequency of when they have been happening makes him believe they are all connected. He is worried more could be set.

The Six Nations Fire Department typically deals with two fire calls a month. With only 17 volunteer firefighters, this string of arson has stretched their limited resources.

“The funding shortfall is gigantic. Our service receives $25 per person from aboriginal affairs. The average off-reserve service receives $50 to $150 per person,” says Fire Chief, Matthew Miller.
