A Waterloo father and son charged with second-degree murder appeared in court Thursday.

Arthur O’Connell, 46, and Patrick O’Connell, 19, are accused of attacking Bryan Foy in their Allen Street home.

Foy’s body was discovered by police Sunday morning. He was taken to Grand River Hospital with serious injuries, and died Monday night after more than 24 hours on life support.

An autopsy determined that Foy, who lived further down Allen Street, died of blunt force trauma, but police say their investigation continues with a focus on forensics.

“Weapons are still a key component in this investigation and very much part of the active part of this investigation,” says police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.

Family and friends of Foy were in the courtroom as the charges against the O’Connells were upgraded from aggravated assault to second-degree murder.

Patrick O’Connell will next appear in court April 16, with father Arthur back in court eight days later.
